G-Easy - Run (ft. Team Robot)

I love G-Easy.  Of all the white rappers emerging out of Cali, he is surely my favorite.  An un-surmountable combination of witty lyricism, crude, goofy humor, and fun beats, "G" has everything I look for in a hip-hop artist.  His flow almost reminds me of a white Childish Gambino, just not quite as funny.  Some of his songs are more somber and focus on telling a story (Marilyn), yet some are completely nonsensical and hilarious.  Hence, "Run (ft. Team Robot).  I have no idea what the lyrics mean but they are hysterical.

Also be sure to check out the link to the Music Video to Marilyn above.  Great Video.

Shout out to all my DA boys who now hate this song because of me... I may have played it one time to many.

Hudson is BACK

Hudson Mohawke has been a favorite of mine since his beginnings.  Cbat is one of my favorite instrumentals of all time, so when I started to see Hudson appear in the main stream I lost it.  I'm sure many of you are familiar Kanye's "Mercy".  Guess who helped with the production of that masterpiece.  Hudson Mohawke!  Anyway, he just dropped an album with Lunice, and you should check it out.  Masterful instrumentals that I would love to hear someone rap over in the future.

Baauer

It's a miracle that Baauer is still available for free.  Trap music is blowing up fast and it would be wise to grab it now before iTunes catches up with the craze.  These two tracks have the wild Jungle vibe you get from most Moombahton, yet they maintain the bounce of Trap music.  Bump this while you ride with the windows down, and then again at the club.  Turn up the subs and just bounce.

Mightyfools - Vega (Modek's Hyper Mix) [Dead Robot's MOAR Hyper Mix]

OK.  I have never heard of "Mightyfools" or any of the guys who do this mix, but I stumbled across this song this morning and was SERIOUSLY feeling it.  Something you have to understand Moombahton is that, when you listen to it, you have to picture its potential to BUMP at a party.  You don't necessarily have to love simply listening to it, but there is no denying that a Moombah party is fun as hell!  Do yourself a favor and make sure you're plugged into some headphones or a decent speaker system for this one, close your eyes, and imagine your at a music festival or something.  I don't care.

JULIAN SMITH - Never Get Naked in Your Shower

This shit is hilarious.  and disturbingly catchy.

Elle Varner... the new Alicia Keys?

This post is unlike any other I have made on this site, but Elle Varner needs to be more famous than she is.  This girl's voice is incredible on her debut album "Conversational Lush", but I think she is even better live.  Her voice has this raspy quality to it that almost reminds me of Alicia Keys.  I think some of that vocal effect is lost on her album to be honest, so these videos are examples of her performing live.  Check her out and if you love her voice as much as I do make sure to support Elle Varner on iTunes. (also check out her album in the link above)

This next one is the first thing I ever heard her sing.  SOO good.

Shout out to Gaelen LeMelle-Brown for introducing me to Elle

Swedish House Mafia – Don´t You Worry Child , You Won’t Fade Into Darkness (Jakob Liedholm Edit)

Although Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello intend to see out their solo careers (as far as I know), their house-music, super group, Swedish House Mafia, is actually splitting up.  Its a sad day for house-music fans everywhere.  The legendary trio released one final track entitled "Don't You Worry Child" to comfort us through these hard times... RIP Swedish House.  Sadly, I can't post the original due to copyright laws... but enjoy this remix.

3LAU - Petty Language

So I posted Porter Robinson's anthem "Language" yesterday, but I want to add something I just found to that post.  The most annoying thing about DJing school dances was the constant request (by girls) to play "Call Me Maybe"... even after playing it twice.  The song is catchy; I'll give you that, but it would be nice to find a way to spice it up.  Its not THAT good.  This, on the other hand, is THAT good.

Gimme The Loot (Superginger Dubstep Remix)

This song came on shuffle when I was walking down Madison Ave a couple of months ago and I felt like I was ballin'.  You are a liar if you say that you have never been listening to music when a song comes on that you imagine to be the sound track for whatever you happen to be doing.  Perfect sound track for walking through a city.  Try it out.  Trust me its awesome.

Porter Robinson - Language

I'ma be quick and I'ma be real.  This song is dope.

Rusko uses sample from One Republic! (blew my mind)

So this post is is exploring a genre I don't post much about but I'm going somewhere, so stay with me.  First of all, if you are not familiar with the band "One Republic", I suggest you get familiar; they are old news.  However, the other day I was listening to their hit from last year, "All The Right Moves" (posted below) when I made a discovery that I thought was pretty cool.

So check this out.  Go to 1:36 in the song and listen to the line he says... (I commented on the Soundcloud player)  ITS THE SAMPLE FROM RUSKO'S, "Everyday"!!! I don't know about you but this blew my mind when I first heard it.  Rusko is an all time favorite, and you should be made familiar with "Everyday" if you don't already have it.  (I posted a few of my favorite versions... There are a lot)

Drum and Base

Dubstep

Snap Yo Fingers (subPRIME Remix)

Snap Your Fingers is a hip-hop classic that never fails to bring me back to 6th grade fundraisers and Bar Mitzvahs.  SubPRIME thought it was about time (rightly so) to revamp this crowd-rocker into something more suited for elecro fans and the night club scene.  That's where money is in the music industry these days, so the fading LiL Jon is smart to make moves in the direction of club music.  This song is fairly old, but I played it at the original Chayger (for you DA and NYC kids) two winters ago and it got the crowd going.  Its an essential to any club-goers playlist.

Shout out to Peter Gilson.  This is our jam.

Kano - Spaceship (Trolley Snatcha Remix)

Like I said in the last post;  "Some of the best upbeat Dubstep out there comes from the random guys we've never heard of."  This next song by Kano proves that once again.  Kano is not that DL in the world of devote EDM (electronic dance music) fans, but your average music consumer will not have heard of him.  Spaceship is a little darker than Dabin's "We Own The Night" from my last post, but I played it at a dance this past year and it seemed to be a crowd pleaser so check it out.

MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE VID QUALITY TO 720p... It makes a huge difference.

Dabin - We are the Night

Dabin is not an artist I follow very often but I stumbled across this song sometime in January and absolutely loved it.  Some of the best upbeat Dubstep out there comes from the random guys we've never heard of.  Almost reminds me of Skrillex in the drop if that is your style.  Thought I would revisit this one.

Apparently Skrillex heard this song and felt the same way because he went ahead and mixed Dabin with one of last years favorites, and the song I consider to be the father of EDM popularity in the United States, Levels.  You may have heard this remix before and not actually known what the rest of the mix is from.  Skrillex is good but give some credit to the guy who produced the dope samples.  Check Dabin out.

Major Lazer - Original Don (Flosstradamus Remix)

Major Lazer is hands down one of my favorites, and when I found this mix of "Original Don" done by none other than Flosstradamus I knew it had to be posted.  To be honest after about the 2:00 minute mark I get kind of bored but the beginning is GOLD.  Besides, a good DJ would transition by that point anyway (at least in my opinion).  This is a must hear.  Shout out to Dan McAndrews and Travis Russell.

I'm actually surprised that I hadn't posted about this already... It's been a favorite for a while now.

Moombahton Essentials

I think its time for a little throw-back collaboration of my favorite Moomahton up to date.  Its a genre that gets brushed aside far to often.  Its just as good as house and dubstep if not better...  It has that wild spring break, pool party vibe to it that is bound to get any party bumping.  Some of these are old but NEED to be revisited.

And of course who could forget...

Ellie Goulding - Hanging On (ft. Tineie Tempah)

I realize I said before that Ellie is only good for Dubstep sampling but I'm eating my words with this track.  Turns out she is embracing her role in the world of electronic music as this track may be appearing on her new album.  Hanging On isn't a house anthem like I was expecting but it still manages to sound larger than life.  Most powerful performance from Ms. Goulding up to date.  Tineie Tempah fans out there will also be happy to hear some guest rapping on the track.

Its just too good...

Birdy Nam Nam - "Goin' In (Skrillex "Goin' Hard" Mix)" Video

Birdy Nam Nam (off Skrillex's OWSLA label) rocking a huge crowd in France with a remix of Skrillex's "Goin Hard".  This is a HUGE late night club rager.  Don't take it lightly, and, as always, make sure you use good speakers.  Laptop speakers wont do it justice.

Dillon Francis, Hudson Mohawke, Trap genius

I talked a little about trap music in my last post and I wanted to give the rising genre a little more attention.  It has several similarities to Moombahton in that it is GREAT grinding music, but Trap always sounds like someone should be rapping over it to me.  That would be the only improvements to these songs.  Dillon Francis, Moomba legend, remixes his own anthem Masta Blasta into a Trap Banger.  Hudson just does what he does best.  (give Thunder Bay a full listen... it starts out slow)

ASHTROBOT-Wicked Style

ASHTROBOT is a dubstep producer that hasn't received very much publicity on US blog sites.  Trap also isn't his norm, but this instrumental is perfect and I really want to hear somebody rap over this in the future.  If no one else finds it then I will if I have to.  This track almost reminds me of Hudson Mohawkee's "Cbat", and if you know me at all, I'm obsessed with that instrumental.  Check that out too.

Rihanna - Red Lipstick

When I think Dubstep my mind doesn't naturally gravitate to Rihanna... and why would it.  She has made a serious name for herself in the pop world and I think it is amazing when pop artists embrace dubstep in their original tracks.  It didn't take an underground DJ to turn this song into a banger.  Dubstep in the real mainstream.  Check it out.

Kiss My Lips - Borgore & Dev

Let me get one thing straight.  Borgore scares the living shit out of me.  His style is way to hard for many people and his lyrics are hilariously inappropriate.  I say "hilariously" because I think that is really the way you need to appreciate his songs.  They have a certain dark humor about them.  Approach with caution but I enjoy these.  The first one is just an excellent remix of Kiss My Lips that he does that demonstrates his exceptional skill as a producer.

Kiss My Lips

Act Like a Hoe

Hood Fantasy - Flosstradamus

FLOSsTRADaMUS is very underrated.  His genre is hard to pinpoint but it tends to revolve around some sort of hybrid glitch-hop/moombahton/chopped-and-screwed perfection.  Using samples from a few noticeables in the hip-hop world, Floss creates the perfect grinding song.

Climax (Flosstradamus & Diplo Remix)

The fact that Usher is still around amazes me.  Regardless of his piggybacking off the success of the little girl he signed a few years back, I am a big fan of his recent song Climax.  Naturally, when I stumbled upon a remix done by one of my favorite up and coming producers Flosstradamus, I had to post it.  Super catchy. Its an instant favorite.  Diplo is amazing as always, but I figured that would go without saying.

The DJ who mixed the video did a different ending to the original song but I kind of like it so I posted it anyway.

Ellie Goulding - High For This (Omega Dubstep)

It seems like Ellie Goulding is only good for sampling in Dubstep songs these days.  I cant say its boosting her solo career particularly well as she is not originally a pop/dance anthem singer, but it certainly gains her publicity.  Plus, who doesn't love Ellie's voice.  Its like sex to my ears.  An interesting contrast to the underlying electronic production.  I think that is why it is so popular.  Check it out.  Shout out to Maggie Cherneff for showing me this.

Bad Girls (Switch remix)

MIA was pulling off the Lady Gaga way before Gaga even came onto the scene.  Just saying.  I couldn't find a youtube link but here is the download and soundcloud to her new mix of Bad Girls.  I loved the original but love what Switch did to it even more.  THIS IS A MUST HEAR.  Its annoying and inconvenient but please click the link. Its not a virus I swear.

sorry for the lack of a vid on this one.

Krewella - Alive (original mix)

You may remember Krewella from their debut EP, "Play Hard" earlier this year, or for the attempted murder of one-hundred and one puppies back in 1996... or maybe that was something else.  Anyway, their EP was a total success with such HUGE titles as "Killin It" which managed to kill a few of my brain cells from playing it way to loud, way to many times in a row.  Well, Krewella is back with a brand new Dalmatian-Fur coat and a music video for another song off of "Play Hard."  This song may be the best of the summer and I believe it may even reach the status of last summer's anthem, "Levels".  PLEASE listen to this song.  Its really good.

A Millie (Excision and Datsik Remix)

Lil Wayne.  He used to do drugs.  A lot of drugs.  Now he doesn't... supposedly.  Well now he kind of sucks (I'm not suggesting anything at all here, just an unfortunate coincidence...) so I'm always glad to hear a mix of a Wayne classic.  This one was an instant favorite for me because it was new, yet I immediately knew all the words.  There was one point a few years ago where everyone knew at least the beginning of A Milli.  Excision and Datsik mixes are always a blast so definitely check them out.
http://soundcloud.com/thehypesthype/excision-datsik-a-millie-remix

Also be sure to not check out Excision (and many other terrible DJs) in concert at ID fest in Boston on the 26th. You definitely wont see me there!

Kanye West - Mercy (RL Grime & Salva Remix)

It seems that everything Kanye West touches turns to gold.  Possibly one of the best rappers and producers of all time.  Naturally his success was bound to attract the attention of remix DJ's and producers, and it did.  RL Grime is definitely more DL Grime and he deserves to be bigger.  I think this song could do the trick.  Shout out to Nick Converse.

Glad You Came (Clark Kent Remix)

Somebody has to tell The Wanted that they are a decade late with their whole boy-band thing.  Remixing their songs will help though.  I had never heard of this guy before but Clark Kent absolutely kills it.  Truly brutal dubstep... in the best way.  Looks like superman can do more than leap tall buildings.  I expect more good things from Clark Kent.

KOAN Sound

KOAN Sound is truly amazing and unique.  I have NEVER heard anything like the stuff he comes up with.  That is saying a ton in an era where electronic music has become so huge and widely produced that it all starts to sound the same.  KOAN takes a new perspective on funk music and ads a wobbly, bass-packed twist.  It almost sounds like dubstep but its not.  I absolutely love it.  Check out these samples and then listen to everything else he's made.
